One-time WPTDeepStacks champion Ioannis Angelou-Konstas emerged the chip leader after Day 2 of the WPTDeepStacks Brussels €1,200 Main Event with a large chip stack and overwhelming lead over his remaining opponents.
The player bagged and tagged 3.5 million last night to lead nine finalists into the final day of play and the official final table. Angelou-Konstas is no stranger to WPTDeepStacks action and to how it feels to win an event within the series.
The player captured the WPTDeepStacks Netherlands title last October and now has the chance to become only the second player to have won two WPTDeepStacks Main Events and the first player to accomplish this on European soil.
Angelou-Konstas took the lead shortly before the money bubble burst on Saturday at the host venue Grand Casino Brussels Viage and never relinquished it until the very end of the day. He built a solid stack throughout the ten levels of play to secure a comfortable start of Day 3.
As mentioned above, the player bagged 3.5 million in chips last night. He was the only player to pass the three-million mark during Day 2 of action. What is more, he will enter the final table well ahead of the rest of his opponents as he holds about 40% of all chips in play.
A great portion of the player’s chips came on the very last hand of the night when he eliminated Benjamin Truyens in 10th place to put an end to Day 2 play and set the official nine-handed final table.
Ahead of Final Table ActionThe official final table is set to be played later today at the host venue. Gianluca Bucchino, who entered Day 2 as the chip leader from the tournament’s three starting flights, is still in contention. The player will begin Day 3 second in chips with 1.5 million. Michael Lech rounds out the top three chip stacks with 1.124 million.
Roland Rozel (930,000), Milan Rabsz (849,000), Martin Kaya (758,000), Mourad Tounnouti (467,000), Miguel Coussement (385,000), and Amin Charef (317,000) are the other players to have made it thus far into the tournament. Each of them is guaranteed a minimum payout of €7,430. However, they are all eying the first-place prize of €74,255 and the tournament trophy.
The field of the WPTDeepStacks Brussels Main Event attracted 315 entries over three starting flights. A prize pool of €336,105 was generated to be split into payouts for the top 36 finishers, min-cashes starting from €2,285. The bubble burst at some point on Day 2 of the tournament.
Nine-handed action at the host venue is set to resume today at 1 pm local time. The finalists will play until the field is narrowed to a final player who will scoop the title, the first-place prize, the accolades that go with the accomplishment, and a seat into the season-ending WPTDeepStacks Europe event.
