Blake Bohn Leads 90 Contenders into WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic $10,400 Main Event Day 4

Day 3 of the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic $10,400 Main Event saw the tournament’s field be whittled down to just 90 entries. The event attracted a total of 812 entries, thus becoming the largest-ever Five Diamond Main Event in WPT’s history.

Day 4 of the event will be played on Friday at the host casino the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Blake Bohn will be the player to lead the 90 survivors into the fourth day of action. He accumulated 871,000 in chips on Thursday to lock the chip leader position.

The player is yet to capture his first WPT Main Event title, but this does not mean that he lacks WPT experience. He has previously cashed in seven WPT events. He even made it to the final table of the Season XIII WPT Borgata Poker Open. The player finished fifth in that tournament to collect one of his largest cashes of $213,999.

Bohn’s live tournament earnings currently amount to $2.6 million. The player is a one-time Mid-States Poker Tour Main Event champion and a one-time Chicago Poker Classic champion. That latter title actually brought him his largest-ever live cash. The player collected the amount of $288,171 for his triumph.

Back to the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic, Bohn grabbed the chip lead late on Day 3. He won a key pot by eliminating German poker pro Rainer Kempe, which pushed his chips over the 800,000 mark.

Notables in Contention

On Day 4 and beyond, Bohn will have the challenging task to survive against the likes of Darren Elias and Chino Rheem. They are known to be two of the handful of players who have won three WPT titles before. Gus Hansen, Anthony Zinno, and Carlos Mortensen are the other three. With Rheem and Elias both still in contention, each one of the two players has the chance to win a record-breaking fourth title.

Gus Hansen was also among this year’s Main Event entries. However, the player was eliminated during Day 3. Record-breaking WSOP gold bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth could, too, only make it through Day 3 of the tournament.

Former WPT champions Matt Giannetti, Jared Jaffee, and Daniel Strelitz are also still in contention for the title and the first-place prize of nearly $2 million. In fact, Strelitz will enter Day 4 second in chips with 791,000. The player, known for his aggressive style, was second in chips at the start of Day 3 as well. Over the course of the day, he managed to increase significantly the number of chips in his possession.

Day 4 action will resume at the host casino at noon local time. A notable event during the day will be the now inevitable burst of the money bubble. The tournament is set to award payouts to the top 81 finishers. With 90 players left, it will likely not be long before the paid positions are reached.
